Born in Tokyo, Japan, in 1986.
After graduating from the Japan Beauty Academy, he worked at a hair salon in Japan for four years before moving to the United States in 2014.
Following an assistantship under world-renowned hairstylist Bob Recine, he became independent in 2019.
Based in New York, he has contributed to editorial projects for Vogue US, Another Magazine, and commercial campaigns for brands such as Supreme, adidas, Nike, Y3, and Helmut Lang.
Inspired by Andy Warhol’s Polaroid series, he began creating self-portraits using his handmade hair wigs.
Alongside this, he started a portrait series documenting friends visiting his studio for haircuts, using a Polaroid Big Shot camera favored by Warhol and a vintage 1960s Deardorff 8×10 large-format camera.
His editorial project Nero’s World, in which he handled photography, hair styling, and casting, garnered attention and graced the cover of Office Magazine in 2023.
In May 2024, NERO held his first solo exhibition at the new Ron Herman concept store “Under R” in Sendagaya, Tokyo, attracting over 1,000 visitors.
He is set to hold another solo exhibition at the “Authorized Gallery” in California in December 2024.
